This season of Lent saw Our Lady of Good Counsel School students, staff, parents and community members walk the Stations of the Cross around the school. It was heartening to see children at lunch time on their knees praying and talking about the pictures. Thank you to those people who supported this initiative, I hope that in some way it enriched your faith.
A tremendous thanks to those parents and parishioners who volunteer at our school. The time and support you give our children is incredibly helpful and appreciated and you make a significant difference to those children you work with.
Congratulations to our Interschool Swimming Team who performed really strongly at the carnival yesterday. They came 4th overall, and while the rest of the placings were announced, I don't have them to hand at this time and am awaiting their confirmation from the organising shcool. I do know that our boys performed strongly this year.
I would like to acknowledge the hard work and training all the children did in the lead up to this event, especially those who attended the after school training sessions at Bold Park. They should be very proud of themselves, I know I am. Congratulations in particular to Finn Knox who set 2 new records in the Year 4 boys 50m freestyle and backstroke. Finn finished 2nd in his backstroke, but it took another new record to do so. To top of a great day for him, Finn finished 1st in both the Open 50m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle, beating yr 6 boys from the other schools. There were other outstanding performances from our swimmers, but again I am awaiting confirmation of all the results.
Finn Knox broke two records one being the Year Four 50m Freestyle where is swam it in 34.70 seconds and the Year Four 50m Breaststroke which he swam in 49.41 seconds. Finn's achievements are very impressive and we are delighted for him.
Huge thanks to Simone Passera, Sonia and Todd Knox and Megan Jamieson from Newman/Churchlands swimming club for training our squad so well in preparation for the carnival. Their expertise, enthusiasm and commitment has been invaluable, as was their organisation at the carnival in running our team and their events smoothly. Special thanks also to the Knox family for their generous donation of our new silicone swim caps. These caps match the OLGC singlets and the team looked very smart when they walked in and between their races in the stands.
